After another hesitation, she gingerly ca out her hands for the baby It was evident Jake struggled with the decision to relinquish his daughter, but finally surrendered He seemed poised to snatch her from his mother’s arms in a second if the need arose
Whitney looked at the baby for a long hed “I see so much of you in her, son I’et you to do, Sondra” She shuddered, holding the infant closer for a moment “To think I wanted you to destroy this precious little life…”
At the reo without protest He cuddled her closer while staring at his mother “What do you want, Mother?”
“I’d like another opportunity I’ve been a fool, and I know that noould like a chance to ed” Whitney’s voice broke on the last word, and while she didn’t cry, she was clearly on the cusp
Sondra eyed Jake, knowing it had to be his decision She had softened toward the other wo in the hospital room Part of her would always loathe what Whitney had tried to do to her and Jake, and she would never forget the revulsion of being offered money to abort her baby, but Whitney see to let the other woree, so she kept quiet
After another long second, he pointed to a free chair “Would you like to sit down? Maybe hold Sasha again?”
Whitney’s eyes sparkled with tears and a large dose of relief as she sat and eagerly took the baby As she cooed to her granddaughter, Jake turned to Sondra
She s him with her eyes that she approved of his decision and supported it fully He took her hand to squeeze it before bending down to tenderly kiss her lips
Sondra reveled in the moment, surrounded by love and secure in her place at Jake’s side
