We&039;re still half aon The traffic has suddenly slowed It&039;s backed-up as far as I can see both ahead of us and behind and we&039;re hardly , for Christ&039;s sake The roads should be e dark I don&039;t want to spend the whole night sat here
I can hear sirens I look into the rear viewup on us at speed A convoy of police cars and fire engines are approaching fro the other way too The drivers of the cars around us shuffle to the side and et out of the way I do the same
&039;Wonder what&039;s happened,&039; Liz e
&039;Don&039;t know,&039; I answer There&039;s a noise fro with each other across Josh who&039;s trapped in his baby seat &039;Cut it out,&039; I snap angrily They stop when I tell theain the second I look away
The eency vehicles ruo They take a left-hand turn a couple of hundred yards ahead In the seaps between buildings and the branches of trees They&039;ve stopped not far from here
&039;Looks serious, doesn&039;t it?&039; Lizzie says, keeping her voice quiet so the children don&039;t hear
The traffic is at a complete standstill now and it looks like people have turned off their engines Soet out of their cars I can&039;t stand sitting behind the wheel if I&039;o and have a look too I&039;ll try and see how long we&039;re likely to be stuck here
&039;Back in a second,&039; I say as I switch off the engine and undo ?&039;
&039;Just going to see what&039;s happening,&039; I answer quickly
&039;Can I come?&039; Ed asks I turn to face him as I climb out of the car
&039;No, you wait here I&039;ll only be a minute&039;
He slouches back in his seat and scowls
Lizzie&039;s not happy being left with the kids but I go anyway I follow a group of three people from the car in front of us around the corner There&039;s a large crowd gathering in the next street As I get closer I can see that a dark blue estate car has lost control and mounted the pavement It&039;s hit a street lamp which has fallen onto the front drive of a house and destroyed a caravan which was parked there The police are trying to cordon off the scene They&039;re pushing people back but I ht at the front of the crowd The car&039;s a total write-off Its bonnet is sainst the steering wheel He&039;s notequip Looks like they&039;re already too late
There are two para down at the front of the car Has soreen-suitedBloody hell, there&039;s a body under the car I can&039;t seeout frole Poor sod Whoever it was they didn&039;t stand a chance
I stand and stare at the crash scene until the police decide to widen their cordon again and I&039;m pushed further back I realise I&039;ve left Lizzie on her own for too long and I quickly turn and start to walk back towards the car I stu when he stops suddenly as the dog veers off to the left towards the hedge
&039;Sorry, mate,&039; I ht,&039; he replies as he tries to yank the dog back out of&039;Come on, boy,&039; he snaps
&039;Nasty accident, that,&039; I say
He shakes his head
&039;That wasn&039;t an accident&039;
&039;What?&039;
He looks into ain
&039;I saw the whole thing happen,&039; he tells me &039;Bloody idiot&039;
&039;Who?&039;
&039;The bloke driving the car Absolute bloody idiot&039;
&039;Why?&039;
&039;First thing I knohen some lad runs past me,&039; he explains &039;Ca Then the car comes past and drives onto the pave The lad&039;s running as fast as he can but there&039;s nothing he can do The driver puts his foot down and just accelerates and runs hiht into the wall Stupid bastard Looks like he&039;s killed hi out of the way and I start to walk forward again, trying to make sense of what I&039;ve just heard This weekend has been full of bizarre and horrific events First the concert, then the attack in the pub yesterday and now this And there was thetoo I think back to the news report atching at Harry&039;s house What the hell is going on?
