&039;The ships areback towards the shore,&039; I answered, &039;and the shuttles have stopped flying Looks like they&039;ve finished packing!&039;
The sudden change in the behaviour of the aliens was also noticed by some of thebinoculars or, in one or two extreious excite with the deadly speed of a bush fire tearing through a tinder-dry forest
&039;Theyto their new base,&039; the man who still perched between my brother and I said under his breath He watched transfixed as the line of ships snaked away from the shadows of the belly of the alien craft &039;Did you know that they&039;ve constructed a safe area near here for the,&039; I replied, suddenly a littlewhere they were going to go You&039;d have thought they&039;d have been carted off and hidden somewhere well away from&039;
&039;Not at all,&039; he interrupted &039;There&039;s a disused holiday camp near here&039;
&039;Brymer Sands,&039; Rob piped up
The ht It&039;s been refurbished and security has been tightened so that they can stay there&039;
&039;But will they stay there?&039; I wondered
&039;Why should they?&039; Rob snapped, sounding strangely defensive &039;Bloody hell, it&039;s not their fault they&039;re stuck here, is it? Christ, remember when Mum and Dad took us to Brymer Sands ere little? We were hard pushed to spend a week there You can&039;t expect bloody interplanetary travellers to be locked up there for a fewthat they were going to be free to travel&039;
Was there anything thatlittle man who had joined us didn&039;t know about the aliens? They see about their needs and their plans, far more than I would have expected them to But then information didn&039;t seem to be very hard to coed onto the Internet I saw nothing but alien news and updates I guess my problem was that I didn&039;t have the same rabid interest as everyone else seeed the course of hu ive them freedom?&039; I asked
&039;Why not?&039; questioned Rob &039;We all know soleft to hide And if the authorities did an about face and closed ranks on us noould it achieve? If people don&039;t get told the truth, they&039;ll invent their own version, won&039;t they? If the flow of information was cut-off noould only be a matter of hours before the papers would be full of stories about little green uns and crap like that&039;
I understood what he was saying but so true I couldn&039;t quite put in to explain how I felt because I wasn&039;t really sureseemed inexplicably simple and uncomplicated In a sense it felt as if every question I could think to ask about the aliens had been answered for me before I&039;d even had chance to speak
At seventeen minutes past eleven the last human ship reached the shore and, for the first time since the aliens had arrived, the skies over the ocean were alh the enorathered to witness the final few hty machine People scrambled further up the hillside and balanced the shoulders of friends, stretching and craning their necks so that they could get a clear view of the release of the ship
Without warning, in a fraction of a second, the sea for miles around the rear of the immense alien , incandescent light which poured out froly silent and I watched in wonder as it graciously turned full circle and began to glide back towards the shore Billions of pairs of eyes stared out frolobe to watch as the beautiful black ently lifted its nose to the stars and then blasted out into space, soaring straight over my head Less than two minutes had passed before the incredible machine had disappeared co and applause echoed through the warh for hout) and then reached back down to help pull Rob up onto his feet
&039;Bloody hell,&039; he said with a vacant grin of disbelief plastered across his face &039;That was incredible Did you see the size of that thing?&039;
I nodded and yawned and began to walk back up the slope of the hill towards ho people swarmed around me
&039;I unsuccessfully to hide the unexpected disappointht to behold but, now that it had gone, I was left filled with a sense of anticli regardless
&039;How could so be so quiet?&039; he wondered enthusiastically &039;And the light fro like it!&039;
I weaved ures So up into space transfixed and hoping to snatch one last glimpse of the awesome alien ship
We reached the top of the hill and I looked doards Thatchae streets were heaving with cars and people
&039;We could havea tired yawn
&039;How?&039;
&039;I&039;ve never seen so many people,&039; I explained &039;I could have hired out the spare rooarden&039;
&039;It&039;s not too late&039;
&039;Suppose&039;
&039;You could still do it, there&039;s plenty of ti to be hundreds of people sleeping in the back of their cars tonight&039;
&039;More fool therumbled
&039;Don&039;t worry,&039; Rob continued &039;It&039;s going to stay busy round here for a long time yet&039;
&039;You reckon?&039;
&039;Course it is Bloody hell, we&039;ve got aliens living thirtyto want to see thelanced back over hts of the camp at Brymer
The aliens were close Damn close
I wasn&039;t overly concerned or worried that they were near, but I still couldn&039;t bring myself to match the euphoria which seemed to have consumed just about everyone else
